Whether you’re the bride, groom, parent or a bridesmaid or groomsman, saying just the right thing to commemorate the big day can keep you up at night.
Writing the right speech or making key notes that will help guide you along as you take the podium doesn’t have to be as hard as it may seem!
Including a quote can complete any speech and have guests toasting with smiles, tears or in laughter. Here are some quotes to help inspire your speech.
Humorous
Marriage has many pains, but celibacy has no pleasures. –Samuel Johnson
Nobody will ever win the battle of the sexes. There’s too much fraternizing with the enemy. –Henry Kissinger
Biochemically, love is just like eating large amounts of chocolate. –John Milton
All About Love
Love is a fire that feeds our life. – Pablo Neruda
Love is friendship set to music. – Anonymous
To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage. – Lao Tzu
Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same. – Emily Bronte
Inspirational
Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years. –Simone Signoret
Insomuch as love grows in you, so beauty grows. For love is the beauty of the soul. –St. Augustine
May your love be like the misty rain, gentle coming in but flooding the river. –Traditional African
Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction. –Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Once you have your inspiration and have your thoughts down, here are some additional things to consider when giving your speech.
Take the time to put something down, even if its point form notes. This way you have a guide if you get nervous and you can ensure that you’ll cover off what you want to say without regrets later!
Remember to include both the bride and groom in your speech. Brides and grooms should cover off immediate family in theirs.
Humour is a great tool, just keep it clean!
Short and sweet is a good thing. Remember, there are likely other speeches and items on the agenda for the reception and most guests are eager to eat and dance!
If you’re going to read your speech off of your mobile device rather than using cue cards, make sure you’re fully charged and practice reading on it before hand. Squinting or trying to scroll on your device while trying to deliver heart felt sentiments is an awkward look!
